The happiness train is back on track today!

Ahh. Like a breath of fresh air, my mood is back to usual today. I don't like feeling down in the dumps. The happy train is back in the station, and boy is that a relief.

What can you do to elevate your mood when you are feeling glum?

Sometimes stress can actually cause you to feel sick. If you have a lot of stress, I have come up with some very simple ways to feel instantly better. These work for me, they may not for you - but if these don't work, there are probably some that are just as easy to accomplish that would work great. Really, all you have to do is ask one question. If someone looked at you and said, "Hey, tomorrow there will be no jobs that you have to get done, no chores, and no one is depending on you at all. You can do whatever you want to do for one 24 hour period, just because you want to do them." If someone gave you that permission, what would you choose to do?

I have a few...

I would take a long, relaxing bath. I would go to a florist with lots of beautiful fresh flowers and buy a bunch to take home a create a beautiful flower arrangement for myself. I would go out to a specialty grocery store and find some wonderful cheeses and veggies and stock my fridge with healthy, delicious snacks that I'd enjoy eating. I'd go buy some aromatic coffee beans and get them ground to order so that I could have a great cup of coffee at home in my "sunflower corner". (If you don't know what my sunflower corner is, then you haven't been to my house...) I would take a mid afternoon catnap just because it was ok not to be working for once... I'd try to spend some time with family members that I don't get to see as much anymore. I would go sit in the new Beatles room in my house and listen to some old vinyl albums that I need to get reacquainted with after having had them in storage since the early 80s. I think I would go to some small, unique shops and buy some presents for people I love "just  because". I would dance around with my dogs - strangely, they both love to dance. (I didn't know that about schnauzers!) I would fall in love again for the thousandth time with my husband. I would have dinner out on the patio and just breathe deeply and remind myself what deep breaths are like. I would find a really good, funny movie to watch at home, and laugh myself silly. Undoubtedly, some of the day would be spent reading some books that I have neglected on my bookshelf.

Actually, just choosing a few of these would instantly elevate my mood. I don't need a whole day. If all I have is just a few minutes a day, I can find a way to take control of my mood and make it a good day. Remember, you are in charge of your own moods for the most part. It is all in how you choose to look at life.

May it be a long time until I have another wasted day.

  1. That is some great advice Mrs. Harman. I need to take a look on the "other side". I never gotten a chance to just breathe and think. A lot of people depend on me. But I need a break.

  2. Kameron, just take a minute and be calm. It really does help. The small things in life are sometimes the big things.
